Learning Objectives:
- Factors that impact placement decisions for children who have problematic sexual behavior;
- Components of safety plans for children with problematic sexual; behavior and how to address safety planning with families; and
- Strategies to enhance successful reunification of siblings.
Training Description
Children and youth with problematic sexual behaviors (PSB) most commonly engage in these behaviors with other children to whom they are related or with whom they reside. There are multiple potential adverse effects that PSB may have on a family. Cases of family and placement disruption due to children and young people who have problematic sexual behaviors are challenging for the professionals who work with those families. Aimed at professionals from a variety of disciplines, this presentation is designed to address safety planning and placement decisions in cases of children and young people who have demonstrated harmful sexual behavior. Processes for assessing and planning for reunification with the sibling victim will also be addressed. Case studies will be used to assist with practical application of information and invite reflection.

Andrew Monroe, LCSW
Andrew Monroe, MSW, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center where he has been employed since 2020. He completed his undergraduate studies at Auburn University where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work. He completed his Master of Social Work at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL. Mr. Monroe has experience working with and developing programs for youth with problematic sexual behaviors as well as trauma survivors in urban and rural settings. He is certified in several evidence-based treatment models, including Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Problematic Sexual Behavior Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (PSB-CBT). Mr. Monroe is a clinician in the Treatment Program for Children with Problematic Sexual Behavior for school-age children (PSB-S) and Adolescents with Illegal Sexual Behavior Program (PSB-A), and oversees the coordination of all the PSB treatment programs at the Center on Child Abuse and Neglect and rural health initiatives for the National Center on the Sexual Behaviors of Youth.
