Training Description

This is a 36-hour experiential training that teaches interviewing skills to Montana law enforcement, child protection, and prosecution professionals.

  • Each class has 35 seats
  • Law Enforcement will receive POST Credits

Trainees Will Learn

  • How to interview children who are victims of or witnesses to crimes and abuse, including child development information
  • How to understand the process of child victimization
  • Cultural considerations
  • The purposes of the child sexual abuse medical exam
  • How to prepare a case for trial
  • How to defend a forensic interview in court
  • Skills to stay healthy in the trenches

How to Apply

Trainees must complete the online application to attend the class. 

Demand for seats is high, and applicants are selected according to several criteria including:

  • Need for interviewers in your area
  • Clear indication that interviewing children is part of your job
  • MDT membership
  • Turnover on existing teams
  • Need for updated training

Costs

  • Tuition/Registration – NONE
  • Lodging Heritage Inn (Great Falls)
    • Paid for by MCSART
    • MCSART will reserve your room for you Sun-Thurs
  • Meals – TBD
  • Mileage – Responsibility of the agency
