Blue Ribbon Award

This award is given to an individual who works with children in the Juvenile Justice System and has gone above and beyond to help them and their families. This person has also impacted their community and youth.

Any individual can be nominated for this award: Law Enforcement, CPS, Victim Advocate, Prosecutor, Juvenile Probation, Forensic Interviewer, Medical, Mental Health, CASA or others who work with children in the juvenile justice system.

Presenter Line Up

Amy Nitza, Ph.D., Executive Director, Institute for Disaster Mental Health State University of New York at New Paltz

Amy directs the Advanced Certificate in Trauma and Disaster Mental Health and serves as Affiliate Faculty in the Department of Counselor Education. She is a psychologist who specializes in providing mental health training in academic and non-academic settings both nationally and internationally, with an emphasis on disaster mental health and trauma recovery. As a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Botswana, she trained mental health and school counselors and studied the use of group counseling interventions in HIV/AIDS prevention among adolescents.

Brian Cassidy, Computer Crimes Investigator, Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI)

Brian is currently an Agent in the Crime Information Bureau of the Division of Criminal Investigations. The Crime Information Bureau consists of four sections Criminal Justice Information Network (CJIN), Criminal Records and Identification Services Section (CRISS), Sexual or Violent Offender Registry (SVOR), Computer and Internet Crime Unit (CICU). CICU, where Cassidy is assigned, consists of cybercrime and Internet Crimes against children.

Alesha Woodland, Computer Crimes Investigator, Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI)

Lee Pekovitch, Phillips County Deputy Attorney, Former Detective for Lewis & Clark County Sheriffs Office

Lee is the current Deputy County Attorney for Phillips County, were she prosecutes criminal cases including crimes against children. Prior to this she was a detective for Lewis and Clark County Sheriffs Office were she investigated over 700 child crimes.

  • LODGING SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION DEADLINE: March 30th, 2023
    • Lodging scholarship applicants will be notified of their lodging scholarship status by April 5th.
    • If you have not received an email about your lodging scholarship status by April 6th, please contact Jewel – jetherington@nemont.net
  • You must call and reserve your own room, if a scholarship is awarded to you, the bill will be transferred to the scholarship account after check in.
  • Lunch Provided Both Days

    • When making reservations, reference the Child Crimes Conference Block of Rooms.
    • Any unreserved rooms in the room block will be released to the general public after March 30th. Please make your room reservations as soon as possible.
